Winchester Walking Footballers Triumph In Dorset Friendly.

Winchester Walking footballers enjoyed a 4 - 0 win over Dorset Over 70's in a friendly match. Dorset were using the game as a warm up for their upcoming counties tournament in Devon. The match consisted of 4 twelve minute quarters.


Winchester Squad: Andy Bramley, Simon Davitt, Ian Dowson, John Hall, Steve Nash, Rob Nicholls (GK), Barry Poffley, Paul Reade, Kevin Reed, Eugene Wills.

1st Quarter.

WWFC Team: Bramley, Dowson, Nash, Nicholls (GK), Poffley and Wills.

Early Winchester possession and a shot from Poffley went just wide. Continued pressure, Bramley to Nash in front of goal who calmly placed his shot into the corner. 1-0.

Good play and movement from Dorset followed resulting in a sharp shot well saved by Nicholls.

Tidy possession play from Winchester created an opening but a Poffley shot was well saved.

Another foray downfield for Dorset and produced another good save from Nicholls.

Quite a lot of Winchester possession but good defence from Dorset.

2nd Quarter.

WWFC Team: Davitt, Hall, Nash, Nicholls (GK), Reade and Reed.

Quite a lot of Winchester pressure in the early stages. Shots from Hall, Reade and Nash were well saved by the Dorset keeper. Dorset free-kick resulted in a shot wide. More good play from Dorset also resulted in a off-target attempt. Nash replaced by Dowson. Another Dorset free-kick, another shot just wide. Dorset were moving the ball around well, and pressuring Winchester. Loose pass out from Winchester was intercepted and the resulting shot again well saved by Nicholls. 

3rd Quarter.

WWFC Team: Bramley, Dowson, Nash, Nicholls (GK), Poffley and Wills.

Good early pressure and neat passing from Winchester led to Poffley laying ball back to Nash and a well taken goal. 2-0.

Dorset kept the ball well, but a Winchester break resulted in a shot wide from Poffley.

Play very balanced for a while and no clear chances. Ball then passed to Wills who had wandered up from defense, who shot from distance into the corner of the net. 3-0.

More possession from Winchester, Bramley to Nash who scores yet another well taken goal. 4-0. Well struck shot from left by Dowson well saved by the Dorset keeper. 

4th Quarter.

WWFC Team: Davitt, Hall, Nicholls (GK), Reade, Reed and Wills.

Dorset pressured Winchester from the kick-off and were pushing the ball around well but there were no clear opportunities - good defensive work from Davitt and Reed.  Breakaway resulted in a well saved shot from Davitt. Dorset responded and a long shot was well saved by Nicholls. Intricate play from Winchester and a shot from Reade went just wide.  Wills replaced by Poffley. Game was evenly balanced but again no clear chances created.  Dribble and attempt from Poffley was well saved.

Final Result: Winchester won 4-0 (Nash 3, Wills 1)
