Silverware, speeches and a surprising amount of rhythm…
Winchester Walking Football Club gathered in fine style this week for our annual Awards Presentation Evening — held at the Winchester Club (the one actually in Winchester, not Arthur Daley’s slightly more dodgy hangout).
From the moment people arrived it was clear this was going to be a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Great company, plenty of laughter and excellent food (many thanks to the catering team who kept everyone well fuelled for both speeches and celebrations).
🏆 The 2026 Trophy Winners
The silverware was handed out to a very deserving group:
Outstanding Contribution to the Club – Sue Hume
Player of the Year – Steve Nash
Golden Boot – Barry Poffley
Fair Play Award – Andy Bramley
Defensive Player of the Year – David Kirkby
Most Improved Player – David Sewell
🎤 Words from the Top
Club Captain David Kirkby and Acting Chairman Jeffrey Lough both spoke warmly about the club’s on-field success during the year, the tireless work done behind the scenes by so many members, and — most importantly — the spirit that defines Winchester Walking Football Club.
Jeffrey also referred to what is increasingly being known as “The Winchester Way”: a style of play built on built on skill, respect and fair play. It’s a reputation the club is rightly proud of, and one that continues to grow both on and off the pitch.
🎶 Cabaret & Celebrations
Once the formalities were complete, the evening took a lively turn thanks to an excellent cabaret provided by Fiona, Sue and John, backed by their house band Mark and Richard. The on stage voices were much more in tune than the audience, but enthusiasm was never in short supply.
🙏 Thank You
A huge thank-you goes to the Winchester Club for being such excellent hosts and helping make the evening such a success. Our Caterers Wild Ones Of Winchester did a magnificent job. Thanks also to everyone who attended, organised, applauded, performed, and generally contributed to another memorable night in the life of Winchester Walking Football Club.
Here’s to more football, more fair play — and more evenings like this.
