Too Much Silverware? Winchester Walking Footballers Forced to Buy a Trophy Cabinet!

Winchester Walking Footballers Celebrate a Year of Triumph
Winchester Walking Footballers Celebrate a Year of Triumph

Over the past twelve months, Winchester Walking Football Club has experienced a remarkable run of success, firmly establishing itself as one of the most competitive and respected walking football teams in Hampshire.

The club, based at Winchester Sports Stadium, has dominated the local scene, notching up numerous tournament victories. Among the most impressive achievements have been a series of wins at the Hampshire FA’s monthly walking football tournaments, held at both Stoneham Lane Football Complex and Winklebury Football Ground. These monthly events attract some of the strongest sides from across the region, making Winchester's repeated success all the more impressive.

But with great success comes an unexpected challenge—where to keep all the silverware! The club has now invested in a trophy cabinet to house its growing collection of cups and medals. Installed proudly in the clubhouse at Winchester Sports Stadium, the cabinet is already starting to fill up, serving as a visible reminder of the team’s dedication, camaraderie, and sporting excellence.

The club also continues to grow, now boasting more than 40 registered players. Such is the strength in depth that a second competitive team has been formed. Like the first team, the new side will benefit from regular training and tactical development under the guidance of our respected coach, Heather Kirkland. With more talent emerging every month, we may soon find ourselves needing a larger trophy cabinet to match our expanding success!

Behind every trophy is a squad of committed players who have trained week in, week out, regardless of the weather. Their efforts are supported by a growing team of volunteers, coaches, and supporters, all of whom have played a role in making Winchester Walking Football Club a thriving community for older players looking to stay active, social, and competitive.

As the club looks ahead to its next season, there is every confidence that the trophy cabinet will need a few more shelves before long.

For those interested in joining or supporting the club, matches and training sessions are held weekly at the University of Winchester Sports Stadium every Tuesday morning. New players and fans are always welcome!
