Another Stoneham Victory!

Squad: Martin, Dave K., Steve ‘Nashie’ Nash,

Andy B., Ian D., Barry, Eugene

Vs Gosport 3-1

Winch started well from the off playing the ball around with confidence. After a few minutes Nashie rifled the ball into the corner. The second came courtesy of another low shot, cleverly deflected onto the defender by Dowson. Gosport pulled one back in the second period but Barry put WWFC In control with a third, artfully lifting the ball over the keeper.

Vs Cove 1-0

Winchester played a splendidly, well controlled game to edge out a strong Cove team. Dowson poked the ball under the keeper. The team kept hold of the ball well and were solid in defence.

Vs Salisbury Reds 3-0

Winchester played their best football of the tournament, against strong opposition moving the ball well, and keeping a creditable clean sheet. Dowson (surprisingly) scored two well-taken goals after excellent passing created both openings. This was followed by a third from Eugene, finishing well to score a welcome goal after a long break. Kukla played an exemplary game in goal with some fine saves and superb distribution.

Vs Farnham 1–0

Barry scored an opportunistic goal early on in this, in what turned out to be a tough game, which the referee did well to control. There were few chances for both teams although Farnham did hit the post. Despite losing a player for a debatable blue card WWFC held on for an important victory.

Vs Portsmouth 0-0

Winchester (having already won the league?) adopted a cagey approach from the start resulting in few chances being created by either side.

This was our 4th consecutive Stoneham tournament win, this time coming top of the second strongest Serie A league. Of particular note were Andy’s control and passing on the right of midfield and Martins excellent saves and accurate passing out. (and a little verbal encouragement!😊)
