Paul Reade Drops In on Madeira WFC
While most people head to Madeira for a spot of sunshine, a glass of something cold and maybe a gentle stroll, our very own Social Secretary Paul Reade decided to add walking football diplomacy to his holiday itinerary.
During his trip, Paul called in to join a session with the local Madeira walking footballers — and by the look of the smiles (and the mountain-backdrop glamour), it’s safe to say he had a brilliant time.
The hosts couldn’t have been more welcoming. Not only did they invite Paul to join their training, they also very kindly presented him with a club pennant, which will take pride of place in the Winchester Walking Football Club trophy cabinet.
And in true Paul fashion… he “just happened” to have packed his Winchester kit in his suitcase — what are the odds? A very happy coincidence that gave us some wonderful international exposure for our club and our sponsors, Winchester Mobility.
To top it all off, the Madeira team have extended an open invitation for WWFC to send a touring squad next year. So watch this space — the Winchester colours might be gracing Atlantic turf again before long!
A huge thank you to our new friends in Madeira for their hospitality. And well played, Paul!
